David Bradford

Recent Paintings

January 29 – Febuary 23, 2019

Opening Reception: Thursday, Jan. 31, 5-8pm

The paintings in the current show are done in acrylic and burlap on panel. Bradford writes: “These still life paintings may be understood as invented, or imagined, even though I begin by looking at actual objects on a table. The use of burlap as a pictorial element helps me to reconfigure observed reality in an improvisational way—sometimes by merging objects and space, or by redefining the boundaries of objects, or by breaking up objects entirely. There is a tension between things observed and the need to improvise, to transform, to invent.”

David Bradford graduated from Skidmore College in 1988 with a major in Fine Art, and received an MFA in painting from Parsons School of Design in 1991. He has since lived in both New York City and upstate New York. He exhibits his work regularly at the Bowery Gallery in NYC. He has taught painting and drawing at Springfield College, in Springfield, MA, Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, and at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT.
