Nagib Nahas
Landscapes and Streetscapes
September 5 - 30, 2017
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 7, 5-8pm

Bowery Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by Nagib Nahas. This is the artist’s third solo show at the gallery. The current series displays a greater emphasis on the natural landscape than his previous two shows, which had primarily featured urban and suburban street views. Nahas typically depicts locations with which he has some connection; in fact, more than half of the works on display are of the Boothbay region and Mount Desert Island in Maine, where he alternates vacations.

The artist considers the depiction of natural forms—trees in particular—and their harmonious integration in a pictorial composition to be the dominant concern of his recent work. He writes: “I typically aim for encapsulation—reducing the components of an image to simple masses and shapes that efficiently depict their reference. Because of their intricacy, natural forms defy this tendency. I have tried different approaches, in search of more effective solutions, but they continue to resist the effort and to stand aloof in their inscrutable perfection.”

The Bowery Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm. For more information contact the gallery at 646-230-6655 or
